Application Procedure (specific dates will be published in the Enrollment Packets)
Parents must submit an Application for Enrollment. Applications will NOT be available until Jan 5th and they must be in by 3pm February 25th to be a part of the lottery.
It is strongly recommended that interested families attend a CNCS informational session and tour of school. These sessions will be held held prior to registration. Dates and times will be included in the enrollment packets, and posted on the website. All attempts will be made to accommodate working parents. Re-enrollment of current students and enrollment of newly school-aged siblings (via submission of the appropriate re-enrollment forms and new sibling enrollment forms) will also during this time. Current students and new siblings of current students are placed before new applicants. Applicants listed on the Sibling Waiting List will be offered admission before new applicants are offered admission (in that order).
Parents must complete a separate Application of Intent to Enroll form for each child. If a separate form is not received for each child, siblings of admitted students will not qualify for the Sibling Preference Policy. TWINS: Application Forms for twins should be clearly marked "TWINS". Every attempt will be made to accommodate both children.
Our 2007-2008 Enrollment period has passed. There are currently waiting lists for admission into all grades. All applications received now will be placed at the end of the waiting list in order of receipt.
Exceptions: any child of a Founder (as designated by the Board) or Founding Member is automatically given a space. (For definition of a "Founder" and "Founding Member," please see the Founders policy).
Lottery
If the number of children intending to enroll in CNCS exceeds the number of available spaces, students will be selected for admission by random lottery. During the lottery, names will be drawn by grade. Spaces will be offered in the order of names drawn, with every attempt to accommodate siblings. Remaining names will be placed in order of draw on the General Waiting List. If the number of applicants for a given grade does not exceed the number of available spaces, all applicants for that grade will be offered admission to the school.
***The General Waiting List will be cleared for each new enrollment period.
Sibling Preference Policy
At City Neighbors Charter School, we understand the importance of families and having siblings attend the same school. We also recognize the convenience for parents/guardians to have all of their children in the same school. Therefore, we give siblings preference in the enrollment process.
A sibling is defined as a biological or legally adopted brother or sister. Cousins, foster children, nieces, nephews and unrelated children sharing the same address with the applicant are not considered siblings.
In order for siblings to be considered under the sibling preference policy, parents/guardians must complete and submit a completed Intent to Enroll form for each child they wish to enroll in the school. If a separate application is not received for each sibling, the sibling will not qualify for the Sibling Preference Policy.
During the lottery, names will be drawn by grade and any siblings listed on the application will be placed in the appropriate grade-space permitting. If the grade is full, the sibling will be placed on the grade's Sibling Waiting List. The names on this list will take preference for admission over the names on the General Waiting List. The Sibling Preference Policy is dependent on available space and does not guarantee enrollment for each sibling.
NOTE: every effort will be made to accommodate twins/multiple births.
Acceptance
City Neighbors Charter School is committed to diversity and equality. Therefore, CNCS admits students and conducts all educational programs, activities, and employment practices without regard to race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or disability.
Parents will be notified in early April of acceptance or wait-list placement (specific dates published with the Enrollment Packet.) Parent's will notified of admission from the wait list as soon as a space is available. Parents will then have 2 weeks from date of offer to notify CNCS of decision to attend. Students will be offered admission from the wait list as space becomes available.
Kindergarten: Children entering kindergarten must be at least five years of age by September 1, 2009.
